A small, lake-side settlement 18kms north of Wanaka, on the south shores of Lake Hawea.

A very relaxed, slow-paced village on the way to the West Coast, Hawea is a charming little community, perfect for visiting families.

The majority of buildings are kiwi holiday batches, many of which have lake views. Most of the permanent year-round residents actually live in Hawea Flat, just over the hill.

Hawea is home to a number of events, such as the Lake Hawea Epic mountain bike race.

Hawea has just one convenience store, a restaurant known as Sailz, and the Hawea Hotel, which includes a bar, restaurant and bottle store.
