Wanaka Department of Conservation Visitor Centre

Also known as the Mt Aspiring National Park Visitor Centre; this is where you find information specific to the outdoors (and much more)!

Wanaka DOC Visitor Centre

In New Zealand, the Department of Conservation (DOC) is responsible for the protection of New Zealand’s natural and historic heritage. Each outdoors-orientated area has a DOC office, which is also considered an information centre specific to the outdoors.

Being the gateway to Mt Aspiring National Park, the Wanaka DOC office is the place to go for informative information on recreational activities and facilities in the park and surrounding regions. Hikers, trampers, climbers, mountain bikers, hunters, even fly fisherman, will find useful information and resources such as topographical maps, track closures and fishing quotas. Hikers and climbers looking to stay in a DOC hut in the surrounding area will need to book in here before you begin your trip.

The Wanaka DOC centre also has a fantastic display room, demonstrating the natural history and geological changes to the area over the past few thousand years… well worth a visit
