A favourite spot for boaters, picnicers and evening BBQers, frizzbee golfers, joggers and dog walkers, Eely Point is one of Wanaka’s recreational reserves catering to many a need.
The reserve has a north and south side, so one is usually reasonably sheltered from the wind (typically the south). There are a number of BBQs available for anyone to use (for a few gold coins), with big square benches to laze around on or lay out a spread of delicious BBQed treats. On the north side of Eely point is Bremner Bay, a great little summer swimming spot (note that dogs are not allowed on Bremner Bay in the peak summer months).
The boat ramp is a great launch spot for access to anywhere in Roy’s Bay (the main main in front of Wanaka town) or the east side of the lake. There is plenty of parking for cars towing boats in the centre of the reserve, a short way up from the ramp itself.
The frizbee golf course is 18 holes of relatively flat, wooded terrain – great for a gentle afternoon in the sun.
