Glenorchy

A small yet visually stunning settlement at the northern end of Lake Wakitipu, 45kms from Queenstown. Glenorchy is the gateway to the famous Routeburn walking track.

Glenorchy is a welcoming, farming town with a big outdoor adventure focus, nestled in between the Richardson and Humboldt mountain ranges, at the very tip of Lake Wakitipu.

Here you will find a range of accommodation, a small numbers of cafes, restaurants and bars, and some limited but very unique shopping.

The town’s main activities include hiking and fishing, however many sightseeing tourists have been visiting in recent years as Glenorchy has been a prominent location for numerous blockbuster movies, such as the Lord of the Rings and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.

While there is only one way in and out of Glenorchy by road, it provides access to the Kinloch township, Rees Valley, Paradise and the Dart Valley, Routeburn Valley and Greenstone/Caples Valleys which boarder both Mount Aspiring and Fiordland National Parks.
